Your essay detailing your vision for the New England Region Phi Theta Kappa
and what you would do to help achieve that vision. 300-500 words, please:
I view our first priority is to stimulate current chapters to more actively participate
in Regional and International events and exemplify the hallmarks of the (PTK)
society.
The second priority is to reestablish, or establish, active chapters where
they had become dormant or never were.
My views as how to accomplish these goals are via visitations and especially
constant communication whether by electronic or more traditional means. We need
to be continually encouraging and challenging chapters and individuals to reach
these goals.
A chapter, I think, should know at least one regional officer and consider
her/him their friend, advocate, coach and cheerleader.
Also--regular regional officer meetings - that the chapters know of when they
would be, would be helpful as then a chapter could communicate a question and
many folks would consider it at one time. Regional meetings are held on a regular
basis now. But I am talking about the chapters knowing of the dates when regional
officer meetings would be held, whether in person or via cyberspace or a chat
room. This would mean the chapters would know to get something in by a certain
date for clarification or help.
I also have a passion to have a web team of people to assist the neptk webmaster
and keep our web presence up to date and a primary source of ptk information
for chapters and individuals.
Most of all I have a desire to see Phi Theta Kappa a force for positive change
and excellence in the fields of leadership, service and fellowship as well as
scholarship in most of the community colleges in our region. At the very least
I would like to see a 10-20% increase in inter-chapter cooperation and the building
of solid life-long friendships through the linkages that occur in chapter participation
in local, regional and international events.
Most of all I would be YOUR regional officer to help YOUR chapter and EACH
member achieve all that they can, and be all that they can be through their
affiliation with Phi Theta Kappa.
As a regional officer, if it is possible for me to do so, I intend to be there
for you, and assist you in accomplishing the goals that each chapter has set
for themselves.
